I just picked up the latest issue (July 2004) of GUNS magazine. It has an article about a guy that hunts deer with a 17th century matchlock, and small game and birds when loaded with shot. He also dresses the part, no "GenuineTree LifeLike Bushman Barkhide ThemCrittersAin'tGotAChance HumanStinkBlocker" camo. Just old clothes and an old gun. And one dead deer. ::

I always wanted to use a catapult myself, its a primitive weapon, right?

Wow, taking a deer with a matchlock, that probably hasn't been done in a few hundred years...

What are the odds that a deer will come your way before your slow match is exhausted, you would have to keep it lit, just in case...

I could here it now...

"Bill, you got enough rope to drag the deer out with?"

"No, this is not for dragging deer with, its my match..."

Sometimes deer pop out of nowhere, so I would keep it lit...

Since he dressed the part, then he probly would have spooked the deer lighting his match cord with flint and steel if he waited until he seen the beast... :winking: :haha:

yeah they have a "habbit" of doing that don't they....hopping out of nowhere like a "rabbit"....hhhhaaarrrrrrrr hhhheeeeee....now i'm cracking me up again................bob

What happened was... Well, I don't want to spoil the story for you. You'll have to read it for yourself. ::
