You look forward to the opening day of deer season, done all your pre-scouting and set up a stand on a well used trail...

Opening morning comes and you head to your stand with flintlock in hand, only to find someone else is in your spot, he's even using your tree stand...

What do you do?

Explain to him nicely that it would be much better for his health to hunt somewhere else.:: If that doesn't work then tell him he can stay in the tree after he gives you back your tree stand.

If that don't work, pee on the trail, lay a thick coat of human scent...

That would be good too. Then go back to your truck and get the trusty Stihl chainsaw and proceed to cut down the tree. ::

Ask him politely to leave. If he refuses, relieve myself on the tree and move to site #2.

I have a ground blind that I have used on opening day for at least a dozen years - and have been there in that general vacinity for many more. It's not a spot that most other hunters find attractive (limited site for about 270

I have had this happen. When hunting public land I always prepare multiple sites so I can always move to another location. I do so without "spoiling" his hunt. However, if it was a store bought stand as opposed to lumber nailed to the tree I would ask that he return my stand or he would be reported for theft. Either way he has to know that you are the one that likely put in the work on building or installing the stand and should feel pretty low taking your spot. Take the high road and know you are superior. Anotehr option is to move up trail in the direction you expect the deer to come from and ambush them before they get to the guy. :winking:

yeah what he said :RO: .........................bob

If this happened on public land then I would demand the return of my tree stand and let him sit there. Actually I would never put my stand up ahead of time on public land... they usually are not there when you come back for them. Those are definate climber stand places that you carry in.

Right after you go # 2 & #1 behind the next tree over, you say in a loud voice " I was worried about that bad cable being strong enough to hold much weight, glad to see it's still got enough strength left in it. I'll be back around this evening, in case you need some help."

At least it might ruin his hunt a bit.
