That is a good idea. When I lived in the country and I had my own personal range and that is what I used. The shooting range I belong to now forbids them. But they do provide wooden target stands. Also no metal cans. They say it is because mowing the grass areas runs over the ones left behind. In other words,
10% of the members cause 90% of the problems.
Was a member of several Baptist church's like that! I'm now a recovering Baptist.

Appreciated I'm sure. I myself have never been to a range. AZ still free and mostly national Forest or BLM land so we shoot where we want. They are closing most the pits everybody and there brother used to shoot at. Now we pick a spot. Hopefully safe with a good backstop and visibility, and shoot away. Not good news for the hikers and the lib tourists call the sheriff Everytime. I never been messed with. Once though we were shooting in an area with a huge hill. Very very safe. Bang bang pretty continually by the kids with the .22 while I reloaded my preferred toys. A very rude and crazy lady walked up there and sat down pretty much in the area of our targets? Just packed up and left. Not sure what she may have had as a motive but wanted no part of it and no conversation with crazy.

I posted what I did out of concern for the safety of members on the forum. Nothing more, nothing less.
FYI. The member who reported your post thought different. As typing is one deminsional its hard to always know for certain. It was viewed as giving ideas to hurt others, something we don't condone.
We now return to regularly scheduled program, already in progress.

As a political activist I have supported my candidate of choice thousands of times by putting up signs. And, I promptly collect them after the election. If the candidate plans to run again I return the signs to him/her. If not I save some for target backing. Those corrugated plastic signs are great in that they are affected by weather like the old paper ones.

I don’t mess with any signs. Not worth the potential confrontation in today’s political scene, even after an election. It’s to the point that I tell strangers I’m Canadian, and I can’t vote!

ONLY A FEW DAYS LEFT, AND FREE TARGET STANDS PART 2 HAPPENS

Remember,

Check with your local jurisdiction for how long the candidates and their staff or volunteers may leave the wire supported signs up before they are considered "abandoned". ALSO REMEMBER we are not talking about signs on private property, but the signs along the roadway right-of-way.

NOW for targets, either taped, or for hanging holders that use clay pigeons, you want the wire holders that are
Π shaped as they tend to be the most robust in wire diameter. IF you think you would want to collect some to post signs directing folks to an event, then you can opt for a few that are the cheaper, weaker, Η shape, depending on the quality. Some of H shaped holders are rather robust. You will have to judge that for yourself.

As a PRECAUTION, remove the actual campaign signs from the wire supports and discard them. Don't post targets over them, for if you forget and leave them standing at the range full of holes, and your actual target falls off, you have left a candidate's campaign sign on a range, full of bullet holes. The police have better things to do than follow up some yahoo's complaint of finding such a campaign sign.... save yourself and your local club the hassle.

Look for the kind that you like now, and be prepared Wednesday or Thursday morning, and GET SOME FREE TARGET STANDS!

Tis always free target season around here for me. I check in back of the local hardware and farmers co-op stores after stocking day for cardboard boxes. They’re free and you can take all you want.

They are good practice targets for critters. I can usually find boxes approximately the size of rabbits, groundhogs, coyotes and deer. They’re usually brown and similar in color to those critters. Our public range only allows paper targets so cardboard qualifies. I just set them on the ground at random distances because critters are found on the ground at random which makes good practice for hunting. Shooting blue silhouettes with a traditional muzzleloader never made sense to me.

Also, when I’m finished, I use them to collect other peoples trash on my way out because some folks don’t always pick all their trash up.

One of the two political parties used to drop off the signs at my house. I ended up with so many of the 4x8 signs that I lined my garage with them to help keep the insulation in place. Cut out around the outlets, circuit breaker box and windows. We used the larger 4x4 signs to make a paintball field for the church. The smaller signs were for target stands. Lots of uses for political signs!

Once we helped a Judge from a different political party than mine collect her signs, she is a great person and she let me keep the T-post (and signs) for various uses around the farm.

I've been using those wire yard sign rigs for around the last four elections. My wife has a job where she gets alot of advertising material in 2x3 cardboard flats that is perfect cut too the right size and used as a backing to staple targets.
