I’m looking for Repair Advice for two Stocks.

I picked these up at a Gun Show recently. The stocks have cracks.

My thinking is wood glue and a clamp on the lighter colored because it's more flexible. Epoxy as a filler with no clamp for the darker.

I’m open to suggestions from more seasoned Gunsmiths, Professional or not.

I have been know to break the crack open more and clean with lighter fluid if old grease and dirt are in there. Tight bond 3 waterproof wood glue is pretty good. So is Acraglas. Be sure to use padding in the clamp jaws so you don’t mar the stock. Best thing is to STUDY the break and plan your work.

I fixed a similar stock to your lighter one. I drilled down through both pieces and used a piece of metal coat hanger that i flied grooves into. I worked epoxy into the crack and coated the metal dowel with epoxy and then pinned the cracked pieces together and clamped. Turned out real good and all you see is a small brass dot of the metal rod.

Wood glue has no place on gun stock wood.......Epoxie best. brown epoxie dye available from Brownell's Gunsmithing , website. Also ,only epoxie sands off perfectly smooth , while wood fillers will show a dip.. Cheap epoxie is as good as expensive epoxie. If you need a release agent for metal parts , cut up plastic shopping bags taped in place ,are reliable and inexpensive. Liquid release agent is expensive , w/shipping , and a PITA to learn best way to use it.
