I'm having trouble finding 1/4 28 nipples with a cone length of much more than 0.44. I'm hoping to find something at least 0.80 or longer and I can grind It off.
I have several old double barrel shotguns that one of the locks is in better shape and hits harder than the other and getting parts for these old locks is difficult to say the least. All handmade from 150 to 200 years ago. So my idea is to put a slightly longer nipple on the side where the lock isn't quite so strong and I imagine I would get more consistent ignition. At least that's what I want to try if I can find these nipples. Thank you. I couldn't find them at track of the Wolf or a web search.

Give this Company a try. Good people.

I doubt that will be helpful. The longer the hammer falls the more more kinetic energy it has. Really, you need to fix the mainspring. You do not want a floppy hammer. Upon firing the hammer will be pushed up by the gas and frag your face. A gunsmith worth his salt can adjust the mainspring and heat treat it.

I ordered a couple of nipples with long thread patterns just to experiment.

I didn't read it on this thread but somewhere someone suggested pounding a shim into the crotch of the mainspring. I made one out of Hickory, may have to change it to steal but it works like a charm. I'm sure it's only temporary but it fires every time.
