Still gathering parts to complete my 12 ga double. (I pretty much need only a pair of cocks/hammers now. If/when it ever gets shootable I have questions. One is, can loads be packed in tight enough to shoot one barrel then shoot the second without retamping the load to make sure it hasn't loosened? Seems like a waste to have a second barrel if it has to be done each time. Might as well just have a single smooth bore?

When you begin shooting your double, I would Re-check bbl #2 when you reload barrel #1.
If you find the load has often moved, then double-up with snug fitting over shot wads. When you load correctly (more shot than powder) there should be little need to reseat barrel #2 every time you fire the first bbl - for example, firing a double at skeet or wing shooting. I still check it periodically as time passes during the shooting.

Thanks. I had heard that it was always recommended to do so, but watch vids show people, mostly shooting skeet, firing the second shot without it. I guess if I ever get to that point I will try to develop my load(s) and find my wads that create a good tight one that will "stay put". Probably check the first few until I can be confident with it?

You'll soon get bored with checking it.
