If you were granted the wish of a gun.....what would be your dream gun ?.....or what would you choose ? :hmm:

When I was a plebe I once called my M-1 my gun. I was made to recite a little saying about the difference between a rifle and a gun. I would repeat it here, but it would not be forum appropriate. But back to your question.
I would like to have a fully documented 1851 Navy that saw action from 1st Bull Run to Appomattox. I would like a diary that related all the issues with the gun from cleaning to function. I would like for it to include the record of its service action. And then, be it good enough shape to be fired at the range.

A Gillespie style Southern Mountain flintlock, 45 or 50 cal, with curly maple stock and hand forged iron hardware, Siler lock, and a good quality barrel with slow twist for patched round ball.

Oh ... and if someone wants to throw in a Shiloh Sharps 1874 Sporter #3, I wouldn't mind !!!

a simi fancy Virginia smooth rifle Cr 1785, in graced brass, tastefully carved, maybe a bit of wire inlay. I sure don't have the talant to make one, and don't think I got a months Salary laying around to buy one, still....

I already burned up two wishes so I'd be happy with any gun from that era. A northwest trade gun, a harpers ferry, a Kentucky long rifle. I'd be happy with any of them. :grin:

I'd love to have an original 1795 Springfield. I wonder if any of the original cannons from the USS Constitution still exist or are available? Or does a cannon not count for this topic?

Well I'm going to brag for him. Rifleman 1776 won a rifle at friendship in '76. I've seen a lot of beautiful guns in books, museums and events, but that was the most beautiful gun I have ever seen.

I would like to have a museum worthy copy of either an 18th century St. Etienne or Liege made trade gun; a fusil fin de traite.

A really nice flintlock like a Hatfield would be nice. Historically, what would be most interesting to me would be one of the first firearms to come to Alaska. Does anyone know what guns Vitus Bering would have had with him? All things considered, however, I'd have to go along with armakiller and take Wild Bill's Colts. I'd sell them for enough to retire and have enough time to shoot my humble Lyman Great Plains rifle to my hearts content.

FWIW: I believe he carried those in a sash wrapped around his waist, not any kind of two-holster rig.
