I'm working on dressing up an inexpensive kit gun by putting some small antler inlay in the stock. I carved the space where it is to go but I'm not sure what kind of glue I should use. Will old fashioned white glue work or do I need some thing special?

Thanks

Don

Except for wood on wood I use a 2 part epoxy for all my inlay work. I have some silver and abalone inlays on a banjo put in 20+ years ago and still secure.

For the wood/wood inlay I use carpenters glue, not the white stuff, but the yellow made-for-wood glue.

Works for me, :results:

What Vic said... but I would add a little brown color (shoe polish) to it. It helps cover up any errors i nthe actual inletting.

Super glue also works well and makes a good filler when mixed with wood dust. Sets quick so you can keep working.

To secure an antler inlay ,I would use the 2 part epoxy you can purchase from an auto parts store. Wood glue is for wood to wood in most cases.
