While certainly up to you to drill and tap the tang, T/C parts are interchangeable. When I added a Lyman 57 to my Hawken and Renegade I kept the original tang and trolled the great auction site for original TC tangs that already had the center hole drilled to allow for the T/C tang sight. You can find them both in 15/16" as well as 1". I'm also not that mechanically inclined, so finding a replacement tang was the best option for me.

I suggest the same as Ruff Hunter, buy one. Just now looked and the prices are stupid high for what it is but that's the "free-market" at work, I guess. Cheapest I saw was this for $65: 15/16 three-hole

I've tapped a couple but have also picked up two or three of the three-hole when I saw them cheap. Always nice to use factory originals and save your own original for later, especially if you ever decide to trade/sell, then you can swap back.

I installed a Williams FP Hawken peep on my .50 T/C Renegade and added a Lyman 17a front globe sight. Matched perfectly, works great. This was one of the first targets after installation of new peep/globe combination while I was still sighting in and getting used to peep.
How do you like the globe front? I am installing the FP in the rear on a TC Hawken right now and they sent me a green fiber optic front blade but I was considering the globe instead. Thanks

I know your question wasn't directed at me - but I happen to be using the Lyman 17a globe combined with the Lyman tang peep. The combination works great for both my wife and myself. It helps a lot that the 17a came with a selection of inserts, makes it easy to 'customize' your sight picture.

My friend and I just recently purchased peep sights from the Williams Sight Company. We found them to be well made and a great addition to our rifles to assist our aging eyes. However, after mounting the sights both rifles shot 3" high at 25 yds. When we went to adjust the peep sight we found that the adjustment is already at the bottom and will not go any further. I have an email in to the company but I thought I would ask the forum for some answers. We had a gunsmith put the sight on and he used one of the screw holes on the tang. So why is this happening? I can't believe that it would be built that way, just doesn't make sense. Any thoughts are helpful.
Same problem here. Solution is to install a higher sight. I'll look for the info and post.

My Hawken w/ Williams peep shot 9 in high at 50 yards. Yours should be 6 in high at 50 yds. The short answer is that raising my sight height by .155 higher than it's current height should get me on target. I would prob add a few more thousandths to give me some wiggle room. BTW the sight is measured from the bottom of the dovetail.

Here is my peep sight, cost nothing, works with the front sight, stays in adjustment and shoots comparable groups (with my old eyes) to what I've seen in the thread. It's a piece of small angle iron shaped with a file and soldered to the rear of the barrel. Some should try it, easy to make although it does require some figuring as to where to put the peep ,as your only adjustment is the front sight. If ya screw up just make another, there cheap and look like the belong on a flintlock, although probably not period correct. 20241129_151406.jpg20241129_151415.jpg
