My guess is they where fairly common but with the army butt grip vs the navy AKA 1873 grips.

possibly the lack of Remington examples could be simply because so many more colts in circulation? or possibly the Remington police model in .36cal was so attractive that the typical Remington fan simply bought the police model instead of cutting down the full size army?

I sure wish somebody would make a replica of the Remington police model. Those sure are neat. Of course a percussion Bearcat would be too.

As much as I like watching Mike B, I would be go with the advertising of the day as what defined what (or even mfg specific).

On a totally different subject a guy made the remark, if you want to know what they were thinking or aiming at/for, read the advertisements of the day.

Its not like a Sheriff could not carry a police or a police officer could not carry a so called Sheriff.
