I have the chance to buy a "wall hanger flintlock pistol" from an internet source. Has anyone bought an antique gun via the internet and have any sugestions on what to look out for? I have asked the seller to describe any proof marks and am waiting to hear back on that. From the pictures all parts are there and it looks like it needs some cleaning but for $40.00 I figured it was worth the gamble. Thanks.

You watch out for Asian/Spanish repro's in pot metal. Ask the question, "Is it old" if he replies "I'm no expert" it's probably naff

Thanks for the heads-up. He said that he did not see any proof marks, after I explained what a proof mark was and were to look. It is being sold by an antiques dealer, it is teh only firearm he has for sale among a bunch of oil lamps and such.
