I'm thinking about swapping out the percussion breech plug on one rifle for the flintlock breech plug on another. The flintlock is .50 caliber and the percussion is .58 caliber. The outside dimensions are the same. Does anyone know if the breech plugs are the same size for the different caliber barrels?

Good possibility that the threads would be different on them. I'd find an absolute authoritative information source for a certain answer.

If they were american barrels, eg., green mountain or colerain they would be different sizes.

I kinda thought they would be different sizes based on the bore diameter difference between the two. I have read the thread is 16x1.5 metric, but that's for 50 caliber. I haven't read anything about the large bores.
Even if the thread size is the same, they likely will not line up or end at the same spots or depths.

I've not replaced or swapped breech plugs on an import. However, I have swapped and replaced some on the T/C's and not a single one has lined up or fit without file and or lathe work.
That's a good point I actually hadn't thought about.

I really want to convert the 58 to flintlock, but I suppose I am going to have to get a different breech plug.

You might also want to double-check those barrel dimensions. I bought a 58cal Lyman barrel with intent to put it in a TC Hawken stock. The width was actually between 15/16ths and 1 inch. It wouldn't go in the Hawken stock and was very loose in a Renegade stock.
