Well!! Good that this topic came up. Surely clears the air and clarifies all the do's and don'ts of how to deal with an angry griz. But, what about snakes 🐍? How do we deal with them ?
in still frog gig. Most of times I wade the ponds and creeks.(no waders can't swim lol)Had a few run ins with snakes. Most of places didn't have cotton mouths just regular water snakes. But they still bite.Killed a few cotton mouths but not many.Know one lesson if you frog gig with someone make very sure they ain't scared of snakes.A few times friends have about drowned and about drowned me.I let them sit on bank lol.But if I get in a spider web and see a spider.ughhh its on. Had a friend try to help me one night he found a spider and slide it down the neck of my shirt. It wasn't a pretty sight lol.

A grizzly is not going to attack you. Not because they absolutely won't, but such incidents are extremely rare - rare to the point it seems silly to discuss. If you worry you might be a victim of such a rare event, just carry spray. It seems outdoorsmen love to talk about that event and how to prepare. I've trespassed well within their domain and have watched them. It is a rare enough event that how to stop or kill them is a non-issue. A little common sense is all you need.
There will be those who disagree.

It does happen, the locals do the shoot shovel and shut up thing with them, and no one knows about it if you keep your mouth shut. Mostly to stop livestock depredation.

From what I've read it's more likely when\if you encounter an old one who cannot find enough food to carry over for the winter and thus, goes after anything easy.....like people.

The bear spray thing is fine, but as the directions\suggestions state, practice before you go so you have some idea how to actually use it in an emergency. The other "thing" is the spray is a mist. If you're in the wrong wind direction (or if you're not holding the can properly) the mist will get in your eyes. Then where are you at?

A revolver, even a 357 stoked with the proper hard cast load will always be pointed in the right direction, and wind will have no effect on the travel of the bullet.

And like concealed carry, better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

I will disagree . I would not want to rely just on bear spray . Black bear maybe. A guide over in Jackson Hole a couple of yrs. back lost his life using bear spray. could not use is sidearm in time. I believe here in Montana his yr. hunters had to kill 3 bears already .one hunter got tore up pretty bad before he was able to kill the bear. I have talked to a game warden about bear spray only. He said he wants both spray and a gun. Sorry for the mixup Mike I hit the like when i meant to hit quote
