Is it uncool to use Pyrodex?

What makes it mediocrity?
Old saying, close only counts in hand granades, horse shoes and thermonuclear devices.
What makes an optimal load depends on what you need it to do.
A hexbore whitworth can group at five hundred yards or more.but couldn’t give fire fast enough to defend a line. Is it less mediocre then a contemporary rifled musket?
A rifle that shoots half inch at a hundred yards better then a twelve gage?
Depends on deer vs duck…. Or bad guy in your bedroom
A gun that rings a gong can turn deer French. While a gun that can shoot a knats eye may not be your best elk or buff gun
The needs of a ‘stitch counter’ isn’t servers by the most accurate but non-contemporary, or grossly incorrect gun

Pyrodex is uncool only if Triple 7 is unavailable. However I use BP and naught else.

It's difficult enough, under certain conditions to get REAL BLACK POWDER to ignite....much less that fake junk! I'd just as soon pour gravel down my barrel as to use Pyro!!

Black powder is available online from Powderinc and others, which means that it is available as close as your keyboard so this "it is not available in my area" is just an excuse for I don't want to pay hazmat fees.

Hazmat fees in my mind are just part of the cost of BP and so I pay it and go on down the road, buy it by the case (or two) and its all good.

And another thought, really nice ML guns are expensive (BPCR guns as well) Would you buy a show horse (dog etc.) and feed it the cheapest feed you could find or would you pay a little extra for the good stuff?

I like Swiss, so that's what I buy, don't remember what I paid for the last case cause when I need more what it costs is what I will pay.

I use Black powder in my flint locks and pyrodex in my percussion cap rifles and pistols. And yes I'm cool

It is like politics. Some people don't like change regardless. Some people will defend their side whether it is right or wrong when the facts show both sides have a plus and a minus. There is nothing wrong with what ever you use if it gives you satisfactory results. I do hate to see things that I know for a fact are wrong and other people repeat it not knowing very much about either? If in doubt and care to know the truth asks Idaho Lewis about his friend that uses Pyrodex and maybe, just maybe we all will see and know the real truth. What some people are missing in their "You're all just lazy if you can't manage to get holy black" snobbery seem to be missing is that some people literally can't legally have it.

That means apartment. If you live in an apartment in my state, you legally can't keep it there. Even if that law didn't exist, the same reason why I can't order my big model rocket motors online applies. If I'm at work and can't sign for the hazmat, the box gets brought to the apartment office. I can't see the conversation with the landlord about why I'm having explosives shipped to my apartment going too well. And as far as the whole "why don't you move" argument... *facepalm*

It exist to get around federal guide lines ,as tenngun stated, as it is classified as a propellant and BP is classified as a explosive . Walmart has Pyrodex out in the open on a shelf ready to throw in the cart with your dog food , yet razors, headlights, etc. are locked behind glass .

I had so much trouble lighting off pyrodex I got dynamite blasting caps from my friend had a special nipple made and they barely ignite the pyrodex

Nine pages in on this thread and still looking for definitions of cool and uncool.
Had to wear collars, ties and jackets 1st through 12th grades. Starting in 4th, had to use a fountain pen instead of a pencil. First firearm a .22 unmentionable for my sixth Christmas. Wore three up and one rocking when I was discharged from the Army. From the time I was 12 always had at least one job. Sometimes two. I guess my point is I am old school.
As an old school tradionalist I stick with holy black.

Listening to a podcast yesterday an apparently famous competition shooter in the East somewhere was being interviewed, and at the mention of Pyrodex he and the interviewer both snorted as if using Pyrodex is akin to wearing white after Labor Day. I'm not a Pyrodex enthusiast, but when I got back into muzzleloading it's all I could find locally. I prefer Swiss, and eventually found some.
What propellent do the Kardashians use?

Pyrodex is Unholy, soiled, and will curse any muzzleloader it touches.

Personally I have never had any problem getting my hands on real black powder even when I lived in an unholy place such as California. At least there I could order on line, buy through clubs and had a local firing range that carried it (1lb per customer per visit - so I made several 'visits').
Now I am now in a 'gun friendly' state but to my surprise NO store carries Black Powder, ask for it and people act as if they have no clue what it even is - still I have had No Problem getting it...but I do now keep a good stock on hand.

Should the day come that I can't get it and I need it, I will Make it.

No need nor desire to even 'try' Pyrodex in any of my muzzleloaders.

my daddy had some weird unfounded misconceptions of black powder and he would only ever shoot Pyrodex 'it is a safety thing kid' he would say

he was the best shoot I ever seen in person in my life, there are competition shooters who could out shoot him I am sure, but us regular folks couldn't compete with that old man

he never shot a charge of holey black his entire life, every load that came out of his pistols and Hawken was Pyrodex

Shot what you have on hand and don't sweat it. Myself, I only shoot black powder as I have plenty. But if all I could find was Pyrodex or Trippel 7, I would shoot that and forget the purists. They ain't gonna clean my guns. They ain't paying for my lead or caps...why care what the peanut gallery has to say?

Well, since you pulled me in here goes. Used the reenactor powder behind 230 grn. home cast T/C conical. shot off a soft rest at a suspended sheet steel 2ft.x2ft. at 100 yards. 20 rounds were set out....16 made their mark. Used my old faithful T/C new englander with a GOD FORBID Rynite Stock. I heard the gong ring the Guys next to me heard the gong ring...so that,s that. Keep in mind im 62 with glasses and cannot get around the fact my eyes are not what they used to be. Years ago it was a soda can for a target. Guys with modern,s with laser sights were pinging it also. That particular rifle has taken many Deer at varied distances in it,s lifetime using Pyrodex also. Thats my story and im sticking to it. It's like the debate that goes on in Ham radio. Is morse code or voice communication "REAL" ham radio . Is Pyrodex or black powder "REAL" muzzleloading. I hope we're more of a brotherhood than to look down on anyone who shoots either.

True, we're losing a lot of the older Ham guys in our Shrine Temple. Every time I go to a club meeting they're always trying to get me to join the Ham Unit. Great bunch of guys, they did get a little upset that I recently sold my M38 Willlys.
