Hi guys

I just replaced an old nipple on my armisport 1853 enfield and this new nipple doesn't seat down all the way, however the threads seem to be right and it's screwed in snugly. Is this ok to shoot safely?

Thanks

I would measure the depth of the bolster and the length of the nipple. Check for obstruction, bad threads. Something is not right.

Can you post a picture of the new nipple and the old nipple side by side?
Yes, they seem to be the same length which was why I was confused.

The one on the right is the old one

I'll also say that the new nipple I purchased was from Taylor's and company and they said it was designed for Italian enfields.

Stand the old nipple and new nipple next to each other and see if the base of each is the same height. The threaded section of your new one may be too long.

Agree with Dusty. The threads on the old one are damaged. The threads inside the bolster may be malformed now which is why the new sharp threads won't go in all the way. Have you tried putting the old nipple back in after trying the new one? The new one could cross thread the old threads in the bolster. The new sharps threads aren't matching up with the worm/damaged threads in the bolster and might be trying to cut their own threads in the bolster and have met too much resistance and stopped.

that's a bummer. I'm not sure where to get the proper nipple then because this was the only one I could find.

Here's the inside of the bolster too. I will say this enfield is really old (I think the 70s or 80s)
I would also verify that the thread pitch in the bolster are the same pitch as the threads on the old nipple. Don’t rely on the old nipple to be the correct size.
The old nipple fit well into the bolster

I also think it needs repaired. There doesn't seem to be much left in the bolster. It will be safer and you will know for certain the thread required for the nipple.

Well done, it can be all but invisible.

I should ask, is this gun for blanks only, or do you fire hunting loads, too?
Im a reenactor and I bought this gun from another reenactor, but I shoot live hunting rounds through this gun. The old nipple that came with the gun is a reenacting nipple I believe, it has a fairly large flash hole.
