I have been using patches sized for a .45 to .50 in my 50 cal with good results. I have also seen patches sized for .50 to .59 and would like to know if you guys think there would be any loss of accuracy with the larger patches?

No, in fact I intentionally use the next larger caliber size patch for a given caliber so I don't have to waste time being picky about getting the ball centered...

I always use the larger patches for the same reason Roundball stated. I don't have to be so precise in centering the ball in the patch before ramming home.

And, those larger patches carry just a little more lubricant. That sure doesn't hurt. Le Grand

As long as you are looking for "hunting accuraccy" and not trying for sub-caliber groups at 100 plus yards you will not see a difference, but the opportunity to carry extra lube up bore will be a benefit.

Fran,
At the range I cut at the muzzle,so it
is really not an issue. When hunting I use the
patches that fit the gun,and take the time to center properly.
Honestly it comes down to what works
for you. I can't disagree with "roundball",
"Frank" or Keith. I just know what I do,and it
works for me. To tell you the truth, finding
what worked for me was the best part of the
M/L experience. IMHO

I precut my patches and like them a little big so I can fold them over the ball to cause less damage when seating.
Thickness matters,overall size doesn't.

I usualy use the same size patches in my .50 as my wife's .54 uses. that keeps things simple, and my gun shoots just as well as hers (most days)
