Thank you very much Guys, two people's experience is really helpful. I will pick up some more #4 IXT, before giving hevi shot a try. I already have some #2 IXT but given tungsten prices, I don't mind laying some away, I suspect medium to long term prices will go way up. If my shoulder can take the recoil from steel, I will tell you how I fair with steel in the right barrel.

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery...

Here's an Itx rb that got stuck in a rifle...
This stuff is hard and brittle.....
I'm afraid to shoot it with out a protective cup or wrap...
I have been sent some for testing...so Will give results when complete. http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h196/GreyWhiskers/P1010692.jpg

I have shot steel with bp..not impressed..for same reasons BB stated..
Have had good results with Hevi shot...
Have had good results with Nice shot...

all three field tested on ducks and geese.

Did not care for the ribbed shot while shooting cf shotshells called "Black cloud".......
Feathers through the meat...That's the last thing I want.

Just prefer the heviest shot at bp velocities.

weight+ velocity=penetration it just that simple...

I use the 12 ga. multi-metal wads in the 10 ga. Pedersoli. No problems.

Early goose opens up first week of Sept...Oh darn!

Callem in close...Hitum hard!

Makeumsmoke,
Have you shot the shot? that stuff squeezes flat with a pair of pliers. I don't know anything about the ITX round ball, but I suspect a different manufacturing process.
Don't get this wrong, I am not saying shoot or not shoot without a shot cup, if you do, great, if you don't great.

I believe ITX shot is lethal for hunting...I do not doubt your results..And I thank you for sharing them.
Just giving the new to non-toxic guys a different view.
We all have our own experience to build on and each one is a little different.

Just did some pliers pressure testing and the 6 shot ITX was brittle and cracked and flaked apart.
Nice shot just flattened and stayed together.
Hevi shot did nothing stayed its shape.

My recommendation for those that want to shoot bare bore(no wad-wrap)
would be "Nice" shot!.with lots of bore lube.

Would love to hear of others experience with nontoxic shot and waterfowl.

Just looked at BPI web site... :shocked2: Hevi-shot 7 lbs.hope your sitting down...229.00
When did this jump out of reach? :idunno:
162.00 was the last price paid.

Only because the law says it is OK. In Ohio it is also OK to hunt doves with lead shot as well. But I am NOT going to ask them to look in to it! I don't want them to think about taking affordable shot away form that also. If I had to buy the non-toxic stuff to shoot my shotguns and fowlers, I would be out of this game. So be very, very quiet when talking about lead shot. :shake:

When I shot cf's for waterfowl about a buck a shot x 3
with the flint....
1 shot 3 bucks so it's a wash. 6 bucks for a double...
I take only gim-me shots so percentage wise I come out the same.
Need steel for doves and woodcock here.
I grin and bear the cost..it's in my blood.
Shot is the cheapest part of my hunts.
Then the local game depts. wonder why hunter numbers are dropping off.

Where is here? Thank heavens that so far where I am, you are not required to use non-toxic shot for doves. Yes it is my blood as well, but I would probably be looking at using my bow, if I had to use non-toxic loads. It will feel so nasty shooting anything other than lead in the old flinters fowlers and SxS's.

state and Federal wetlands here..Wisconsin

Nice shot would be your answer when the time comes.

I don't have an issue with the lead band for waterfowl..
encountered enough emancipated birds dying from lead shot ingestion.
Most of the time the birds go deep into cover to die.
Under the right conditions of the lake bottom the birds pick it up while feeding.....Keep in mind the lake has been gunned since the very early 1900's talking tons per acre....no bs!.... per lake bed core samples.
To this day I feel some guilt with the amount of lead I have personally shot into this lake.1969-1980 or 1981 Bought my first smoothbore(Pedersoil 12 dbl) after they band lead in shotshells to keep shooting lead.
What solved the problem with lead in the system was to drain the lake..let the natural vegetation grow and cover the lead so the birds could not reach the shot.
It worked....Lake came back clear and clean....
Nothing but non-toxic for me.
I shoot repro's so it's not a sin!
I feel your pain using originals. :(

I'm getting ready to start working up a load for a Pedersoli 10 guage. Are you guys not using a shot cup with your loads. And will different lubes change things like they do with a rifle.

I'm not using a shot cup, and I dunno about the change in lubes. Good question. I use either the factory lubed wads or lube my own with straight olive oil.

+1 as Brown Bear, I don't use Olive oil, I use T/C Natural lube with my wads. Just be careful if you do not have the chrome lined barrels and using the harder Tungsten shot like Hevi-Shot.

With the Cabelas pedersoli doubles at least in 12ga look down the barrel and you will see the chrome lined barrel, The others which I have not seen, but think it will look like blued barrel steel. The folks on here that do not have the chrome lined barrels may be able to answer that
