This rifle by Jack Garner is kind of odd. What style would this be considered? Short SMR? Leman style? The buttplate does not seem to fit other elements.

Reminds me of a PA longrifle that was shortened for use out West. My brother has a similar rifle by Garner but it's flint and has a 36" barrel. That one looks a bit shorter.

I have a Garner from the 1977-era. (SMR style) This gun you've shown in the high-quality photo is just plain NEAT; whether or not it meets or matches some prior 'style' is not germain; I'd love to have a plain, handsome piece such as this! Congratulations!

That looks like something Jack would have built for hunting muleys and elk in Pinon-Juniper thickets,

Has a 34" barrel. Not in my hands yet.
My 1977 Garner SMR had a 42" barrel; I had it shortened to 33" simply because I like a shorter barrel. I should have signed up with the moniker "Carbine Art" instead of springfield art. :) The rifle has a Dixie Gun Works lock; don't know what maker the barrel is. It's a .45 cal.

I would PM him and ask.
I had a great conversation with a builder about his early (1970s) guns and he said they weren't meant to look like anything particular. With limited parts and limited understanding of different styles/schools, he just copied whatever examples he had and applied creative license to make a gun that would sell to shooters of the time. Maybe this gun is something like that.

I like that rifle and have a 36" flintlock Lancaster style. That's my idea of a shorty in flint. I'd be delighted to own that bad boy.
