Help! I need someone with a micrometer to tell me the jag sizes of a 12 ga., 10 ga., a brown bess and a .69 cal Charleville musket. Thanks in advance, Dread
Well Dread, i normally go to the store and buy one that says .12 ga, .10 ga., .69 cal. etc. Works for me. :: :: And why doesn't a great gun builder like yourself have a mic in the first place? HUH HUH :hmm:
I don't presently have any jags that large but after miking .45, .50, and .54 they seem to run .025-.030" under the stated bore size, hope that helps. ::
Just a wee hint. Try the next size smaller jag, especially for wiping. The patching/cleaning material will try to rollup at the top edge of the jag and will do a better job of getting soft fouling to ride up and notdrop back down past the patched jag. This won't work if the next size smaller jag is a lot smaller in diameter...like a .69 in a .75, etc.
I'd say you is right. I make my jags about .030 under bore size. Sometimes a feller will want one a little smaller cause they're using extra thick patches. The ones for chambered barrels are a real pill to turn. Those .75 jags are big enough to use as a weapon themselves.
