Would like to use folding leaf sights on my Lyman Gpr .54
Yep I realize may not be politically correct but am not concerned w/that just a good sight for huntin at two or three pre set ranges stead of just learnin to hold over "bout this much" Track of the Wolf shows three different Jeager sights thet I "May" be able to modify, any other suggestions from the cognoscentii here?
Thanks

Those jager sight leafs are labeled.

One says 75 yards.

The other says "You missed".

I think that you need to shoot that smokepole a bunch at different ranges. I think that you will find that the amount of bullet drop in 100yds ain't that much to deal with. The trail walk that a local club shoots has targets from 15 to 225 yards. And most folks shoot over the top of the long gongs, cuz they are holding too high!

IMHO, the Jaeger sights are a PITA. They are always too loose & the dang thing flips down when ya don't want it to or too tight & ya can't get it up when ya want to in cold weather. I took the flip sight off all 3 of my rifles with them & just use the regular sights & saves allot of hassle. I sight my rifles dead on at 50 yards & hold 1" high at 75 yards.
75 yards is my shooting limit with iron sights. A man has to know his limitations....

On my GPR I have the sight tht came with it & have never had a problem with it. I did open & square off the rear sight as I like my rear notch square & wide.

I recommend a small spring (from saw blade) that bears against the bottom of the leaf. This way the leaf snaps into position when it is flipped up and also stays down when you dont need it.

Yes, I thought of that & it would probably work, but it is more trouble than worth for me. I don't shoot any further than 75 yards now with my eyesight, so one rear sight will do it for me.
