During my tool and diemaking apprenticeship, I very rarely used a jeweler's saw...in the real world it's the slowest tool to use and time is money. A design that mandated the use of a jeweler's saw was changed so a faster tool could be used. Yes, the toolroom had jeweler's saws but they were used infrequently or not at all.
When I was a designer, never made a detail that req'd a jeweler's saw. I think that their use is limited to hobby work....where time spent isn't of the essence.
Initially, I used bent nails for bbl lugs so a jeweler's saw wasn't needed and later on used dovetailed bbl lugs and a series of holes were drilled and the thin webs between the holes were filed through using a small , round needle file.....still faster than a jeweler's saw.....Fred
