Has anyone ever used the Johnson peep sight that is sold by Muzzle loaders Builders Supply. My eyes are not what they used to be and I am thinking about installing a peep sight on my Investment Arms Hawken. I would like to see some photos of one installed on a rifle.

I like them a lot.

Here is one that I installed a dovetail on. It's on a Fullstock Flint Hawken I built this year:

Also have one of the brass versions installed on a Jaeger I built. This one is screwed into the barrel. I use Twilight apertures from Williams Gun Sights which can be purchased from Midway USA, Brownells, and others.

Hope those help.

Now those look really neat. With my old eyes having so much trouble this may be what I need. I don't care about PC/HC as long as I can see to shoot. I'll be checking these out. Thanks for the pics.

The only place I have found the peeps is Muzzleloader Builders Supply:

I like the brass ring in the Twilight apertures. I use a .093 to sight in, and then a .125 or .150 for hunting, which will allow you enough light from 1/2 before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset even if cloudy.

Interesting thing I read on the eye's relation to the peep and centering. Usually you hear that the eye will naturally center the front sight...and that's pretty much true. But better than that, as long as the aperture hole is smaller than the pupil diameter, the front sight doesn't even have to be centered to maintain accuracy! And of course, as pupils dilate in low light, they get even bigger in relation to the fixed size of the aperture hole, so even the larger apertures work great!

And...I think peeps were around before the advent of the flintlock...so maybe not many people put them on hunting guns in the 1700's, but they certainly existed for use. So in my book, that's HC/PC enough!
