So the loads you guys are choosing seem to be pretty evenly split 2F and 3F.
Lucky me. I have both!

I just assumed it being larger than a .54 I would automaticaly go with 2F.

I used email in your profile. Is that correct ?

I got it!!!

It is darn near mint condition. Never been fired.

I just took the .54 rifle off my stock and put the .56 on it.
Now I have a smooth rifle. :)

I can't go shooting yet. Not only do I not have shot or proper sized roundballs, my yard and target area are still covered in a couple feet of snow. :(

As soon as the snow melts off I got some shooting to do. I have the .56 to do load development on and a .50 Hawken pistol to figure out also.

thank you

I have a physical copy of the T/C loading manual printed in 1983. Small red booklet. I didn't stop to think it would have the .56 SB loading information, but there it is on page 36 and 37.

oops

Edit to add: There certainly isn't alot of information on various loads with this barrel in the manual. I woulda had to ask around anyways.

congrats on your find ... still looking for a 20 guage barrel in flint ... nothing out there, but you never know ...

Well I couldn't stand it. I had to shoot it at least a few times to say I did.

Just a few shots out the back door at the targets behind the house. Each hit the general area I was aiming at. I didn't actually hit the inner rings though, but I was just throwing lead down range just for.

CL,
There is also a lot of info on .54 smooth rifles (.54 obviously) and 28ga smoothbores (.55) here, and all of it should be very useable in your .56 with some very minor adjustments. Here is what I do with my 15/16" GM 32" smoothbore on a Lyman GPR stock:

Light: 55grs FFFG, 3 cards, 3/4 oz #6 shot, 1 card

Heavy: 70 grs FFFg, 2 cards, 6" jute twine nest, 2 more cards, 1.5oz #6 shot, 1 card

PRB: 80grs FFFg, 4 cards, patched .527" ball

I have a #4 buckshot (.24") mould also which is in the old "swan shot" size range, but haven't worked up a proper load with it yet so can't comment much there. So far, my best patterns are with 60grs FFFg, 2 cards, the jute twine, 2 more cards, and 20 of the #4 buck with another card to keep them from rolling out. But I still have a quite a bit of load work left to do before I settle on a buckshot load for this gun.

What size shot are you thinking for using out of this gun? I settled on trying to use #6 for everything as it seems to be a good compromise between large enough to work for most of what I need and still have a high enough pellet count to keep my patterns from getting too thin too quick. But Have heard a lot of good arguments for having some fine (say 7.5-8) shot and some larger (like #4-5), but being stubborn, I try to test things myself instead of following the lead of smarter people than me who have done a lot of testing to know more than I do.
