I'm somewhat new to the forum. I've been a reader for quite a while, but hadn't posted. I decided to share my latest project with you guys.

I put on the last coat of finish yesterday and assembled the gun this morning. It turned out pretty decent I think. 44 cal, 40" barrel, Isaac Haines style. There are a few things I'd do differently next time, but overall I'm happy with it.

The stain is two coats of light brown leather dye. The finish is danish oil....5 coats applied over several days. Then I finished up with a coat of Minwax antique oil finish. This was the first time I used the danish oil....I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out.

The barrel and lock were etched for me by local gunbuilder extraordinaire named Doug Warren (Dry Blankets) of Bear Creek Trade Co. His etch is the best I've ever seen.

This really was my first shot at engraving. I've done some very minor stuff before, but not near on this scale.
