I've just ordred a basic tomohawk pipe axe. I'm looking foward to doing a bit of carving and engraving.

Any tomohawk owners on here?

Yup. I own a Roger's Rangers tommy that I bought from a fella that forged it out of a ball peen hammer with some filework on the head and an arrowhead spike. It has a nice curly maple handle with a LOT of curl. I'll try to see if i got a pic somewhere.

Here's the tommyhawk I bought. It doesn't get thrown either.

I've had this ax head in my garage for a decade with no handle, finally I put one on it, striped the handle with a propane plumbers torch, and it is identical to this one, the
Hudson Bay Company Trade Axe

I absolutly love it. I was showing some old timers how to throw the other day, my second time throwing EVER, and I stuck it on the 2nd try. I'm hooked man. Now I am about to put up an old stump in my back yard.

Whats more, I use it for other stuff like cutting roots while digging fence posts, preparing chickens for dinner, etc. Love it!

I bought that Ranger 'hawk from Stephen D. Liley of Coal Creek Forge. Every once in awhile he sells something on fleabay. If you want, I got his e-mail. Just PM me. He also made this Ranger 'hawk.

Nice.Do you not throw it because of the handle? I carved a nice handle inspired by Maguas in LOTM but I put a plain handle on when I throw it.

Sorry I hadnt answered back. Forgot about this post. I dont throw it because it really isnt a throwing hawk, although it can be thrown. It's a hand-to-hand weapon, plain and simple. I could have another made with a hickory handle to use as a thrower. But, I'd hate to have to tear the handle on this one apart, so it's strictly a non-thrower.

Got several throwing hawks.Seen a hawk this weekend at Christmas at Old Fort Concho in San Angelo,Texas that I would like to try to make as soon as I get my forge up and going. The head is made out of a railroad spike and it looks like they split it for the eye. I picked up a few spikes awhile back with WHC on the head for a dollar a piece.Don't know if I paid to much or not.
