My tax refund hit the bank this morning, so I just had to immediately order my .54 GPR kit. Can't wait to get this baby built.

WoooHooo! Lucky you. We'll be wanting an ongoing build report with pics, please.

My wife mentioned our return should arrive in a few days....hmmmm. :hmm:

Oh there will definitely be an ongoing build report...don't worry about that.

This is the only "toy" I'm buying with my refund. Everything else went to savings/paying off all debts except the mortgage.

I built a .54 GPR flint kit a couple of years ago. I browned the metal and used boiled linseed oil on the stock. I really like the looks, which is very different from my production .54 GPR percussion that I've had for almost 30 years. The kit went together easily and fast. Both of my GPR's are great shooters and you couldn't ask for a better caliber. Congradulations

Obviously at age 24 you're not married. My wife says no toys if we get a refund. :cursing: :shake: :yakyak:

You will love how accurate that rifle will be. I have a store-bought .54 GPR and absolutly love it. Don't forget to solder the ramrod lug (rail) to the barrel if possible or if not, remember to squirt WD 40 into that hairline gap. It draws water. Otherwise, the GPR is a fine rifle!

You made a good choice that will give you years of service, if you have any questions in the assembly there are a lot of folks here who have put these guns together, who will give some tips.

make sure you lube the wedge pin plate screws with something so they dont snap off! I did that when i build the GPR kit.

You're gonna have fun with it.
Consistent shooter once you get her dialed in.
Mine is deadly accurate with 85grs. of 3f Goex.

Well...sure.
Go down to the hunting forum and see mine resting on a coyote pillow. :shocked2:

As an alternative to lubeing the escutcheon plate screws that come with the kit, which are very fine and snap easily, you should try some #2 wood screws. They are much sturdier, and with the proper pilot hole and luberication should screw in without snapping off. The countersinks in the escutcheon plates are large enough to accept #2 screws. I can't find #2s in the TOTW catalog right now, so maybe Brownell's is your best bet for unplated #2 screws. That's where I bought mine.

I'm suddenly in the market for a new flinter and it ain't gonna be a T/C. Mind if I ask where you got your kit and how much it set you back?

I got it HERE.

The next cheapest I found it was www.tjgeneralstore.com for $405 (percussion and flint are the same price there).

I had a confirmation phone call (not email...phone call...with a real, live person) within 15 minutes of ordering from Midsouth, and they shipped it today. So far, I can't say enough good about their customer service.
