Kibler Fowler thumbpiece

I swear I just saw a post on this but now I can't find it. So on my fowler, the thumbpiece sits ever so slightly proud of the stock. Is this normal and acceptable?

I'm afraid to file it as I might lose the details on the brass.

are the edges flush? does it fill the inlet? [as in may need to be tapped out a little] if not inlet it. but smoke it or inlet black it first may only be a tiny spot holding it up.

Yes for the most part but sometimes the relief makes that impossible.
