I put 4 coats on a practice stock, it is thin and has a pretty strong solvent scent. It is definitely less shiny vs truoil, the instructions didn’t say anything about sanding between coats so didn’t until coat 4. I sanded and will see how coat 5 looks. It definitely builds up slower than true oil which can be used to your advantage. It doesn’t get as tacky as quick as true oil which is definitely nice. 4 coats of true oil makes a pretty nice finish and this current batch is a really tough finish. Kiblers will take more coats and some experimenting with. I don’t think one is better than the other at this point, just different, it will take a bit longer for me to get to a completed finish vs truoil but I do like the subdued sheen. I’m on the fence to whether I’ll use it on my current build as the wood is awesome and I have so much more experience with truoil. The way kibler’s finish applies, it might be easier to get a perfect finish where as truoil you have to be pretty careful because by the time you have the oil properly applied over the entire stock, the finish where you started is getting tacky and it’s easy to blemish at that point. I guess I’m going to have to use it and see how it turns out, lol. Oh and mine dried overnight in every case. No sun but a very warm dry room.
