I was sniffing around on their website the other day and saw that they offer some options in smoothbores. In .50 through .58. Has anyone bought one of these? If so, why and what has been your experience?
That’s a pretty gun.Everyone I've ever talked to has be very pleased with theirs. I just got a Colonial in 58 that a friend made. It's gorgeous and has shot well thus far.
I have been thinking about a .62 smoothbore too. I just haven't found the right kit yet.Agree with @waksupi. I had considered the Colonial 58 smoothbore but went with the 20 ga / 62 trade gun I’m building now. I’m happy with my choice.
That’s a pretty gun.
She's a beauty! Have you worked out any shot loads for it yet? Good patterns? Looking at getting a smoothbore and to try my hands at a kibler and figured do both at once. Would use it mostly for turkey and not sure I'd get enough out of a .58 at modest ranges.I think the .58 smoothbore is a fine gun. It's quite light and handles very well. Here is one I built with a Maple stock.
Very authentic!
Especially how your rifle is protected by sitting on your clothes.
I guess that means that you have to watch out for hungry fishies!
hi ballshooter, what caliber is that and what was the range?I love my kibler colonial smoothbore in cherry
I built that smooth rifle for someone so I’m not sure how he’s loading it. If it were mine I would probably start ( for shot) with 60 grains of 3f and 65 grain measure full of shot ( #5’s) and work from there. She's a beauty! Have you worked out any shot loads for it yet? That was at 45 yards load was 85 grains of my 2 1/2 F homemade brew/ 45 grains of corn meal yep corn meal right on top of the powder then a shot card aka a Ritz cracker card cut from a 15mm round punch then my .008 patch and a .562 roundball.Ballshooter, What is the distance you shot that tight group at in pic 2? Was it with patched balls?
I would be interested in a lightweight Fusil de Chasse if I could potentially shoot groups like you did there at deer distance. I think I read somewhere Kibler's producing an English Fowler, not a fuzee.
Thanks, that's a good place to start. Appreciate the reply.I built that smooth rifle for someone so I’m not sure how he’s loading it. If it were mine I would probably start ( for shot) with 60 grains of 3f and 65 grain measure full of shot ( #5’s) and work from there.
Wow, that is a gorgeous gun right there. Some very lucky guy owns it. I sure hope he appreciates it. ; )I think the .58 smoothbore is a fine gun. It's quite light and handles very well. Here is one I built with a Maple stock.
