I plan to scrape the stock and skip sandpaper completely.There is absolutely no reason to sand a maple stock finer than 220 or 320.
Especially after it has been sealed. These are guns, not jewelry.

If your a good hand at carving I would go for it. I have trouble drawing a stick figure.I gave in and used sandpaper in the ramrod groove.

Yup, and it's your weapon to do with as you wish, I want mine to be as high gloss as I can make it. My build, my choice. May never take things this far again, but won't know until you do it. If it gets scratched, I'll fix it because I'll know how to bring it back!I took my Kibler,s extra fancy curly maple down to 800 grit before dying and again afterwards to polish the grain. Followed by 5 coats of Truoil. It’s jewelry to me
