Man, this is a old thread!!

any new input on KIK?? i have been wanting to order 10 pounds and support the powder inc family and when i found they didnt have the goex i wanted i sent a couple of emails, did a search here and decided to give Kik a try. i thought it was priced a little high for a product that dont get much press but it does have to cross an ocean to get here so it is what it is. i also liked the fact that when i called the phone rang twice and it was answered by Naomi who is a family member and the wife of the young man who was injured. she was freindly and patient with an old man who had to inquire of her husbands condition (especialy since it is posted on the web page) and mention the way to get it to rain is to plant in the deepest furrows you can plow instead of on raised beds like i have for the past 2 or 3 years just knowing it was the year a 6 year draught would break. my first email was answered in minutes, the second in a half hour or so, i highly reccomend powder inc and hope to file a report on KIK powder in a week or two. any of you guys who are or have used it, i would love to get your thoughts/opinions.

You sure did go back in time!! KIK is the only powder I use. 70grns of 3fff,1/8" over powder wad, .22 mattress ticking, .490 roundball Gives me 2" or less at 50 yrds. Its cheaper than Goex and burns cleaner also, Its almost as good as Swiss at half the cost.

thanks for the info, is the reason for the over powder wad to prevent patch burn through? if so how big a deal is that?

yeah it did go back awhile but thats what a search for kiks brought up, strange but kik or KIK returned no results.

Thanks David, that will be my use as well. do you use a over powder wad as well?? are you using 3f or 2f?? after hearing from Killer i am considering calling monday morning and changing my order to 2f, i aint a match shooter and not knowing just how much effect powder burn will have i am getting leary of the 3f. i dont want to have to use wads to plink in the back feild or pop at squirrels.
thanks again David.

Paul, i couldnt look at the page you linked, logged on at a blazing 1600 bps this morning!!! one of the disadvantages of living in the river sticks if you use a computer. i will check it out when i return to work.

thanks.

I did a little googling and found something that may be of interest to the powder nerds amongst us

KIK Powder

That info is well over 10 years old. Not complete in actual fact.
KIK has been imported by Western Powder for several years now, and despite the urban myth/internet factoid" that the company is broke, there won't be any more available" The stuff just keeps on coming in and selling well, and holding a pretty steady following.

well i let it slip my mind until i received a shipment notice from powderinc this morning so i guess i will have 10 pounds of KIK 3f in a few days.
how big a deal is patch burn through for a guy who is poppin at squirrels at 25-30 yards or shootin paper in the back feild?? i have yet to stumble on any patches and havent looked for them from the graf 3f ive been shootin so i dont know what it has been doing to the patches but i have been happy with the results. just wonderin if i will loose enough gas to low by to worry about or not.

thanks.

I got a can of it last week to do some testing, It's a got a lot of powder dust in it. It shoots ok, I think I'm going to sift it to get all the powder dust out of it. I got it in 2F, I think it's a little hotter than Goex 2F maybe because of the dust. Testing goes on this weekend after sifting. Again it's seems to be hotter and or faster burning almost like 2-1/2F close to 3F.
Didn't notice any more fouling than Goex 2F.
All shots were out of a 50 cal GM barrel 1/70 twist.

I know I'm relatively new to the whole black powder thing but please allow me to make an observation...

Black powder being what it is, a natural product made from natural materials, is going to vary. There's no way around it. Especially when we're talking about sources from the other side of the planet.

That doesn't mean they're bad. Well some are but I don't think KIK is one of them. Anyway what they are is different. Just different.

That's why (I think) it pays to buy in bulk and work up loads and techniques that work for you with whatever powder you happen to go with.

Now let's all go make smoke!

Thanks for indulging me.. :hatsoff:

Creek i am using a .310 ball,.10 patch over 25gr's of 3f. never seen any patch burn through and fouling is a non issue.

Thanks David,CatMan and Paul. thats good news for me. i have already stuck three balls in the bore in my BP infancy, i dont need another step in the operation
