You guys ever try KIK powder? How does it rank next to goex?

I've used it. It's a little bit dirtier than Goex but otherwise it seems to be a decent enough powder.

i really cant tell much difference between it and Goex,but i've only used it for hunting.hav'nt done any range shooting with it.

:hmm: I find it to be between Goex and Swiss. A little cleaner and hotter than Goex, fouling seems softer than Goex. I believe that may be due to the alder wood used for the charcol. Allot less expense than Swiss and less expensive than Goex. Win Win in my book. :thumbsup:

When Goex started importing it to fill the void,a lot of top target shooters started using it and got hooked.It was a better powder than Goex----at that time :thumbsup:

I like it. It seems to be a little hotter. Not much but KIK 2F is about the same as GOEX 3F. I found it shoots a little cleaner. Noticeable mostly on final cleanup where it takes a patch or two less to clean it up than GOEX.

I was going to get another 25 pounds on my last buy but ran into 25 pounds of bulk GOEX 3F for $9.00 a pound so got it. It would not bother me a bit to buy another 25 pounds of it in the future.

Hmmm, Dirtier than, cleaner than, hotter, milder, etc., etc. Looks like the only way to know for sure is to get some and try it.

No...I've found it to be as I stated above year round in all conditions. :v

I ordered KIK last time and I have to say I do like it. Not sure if I can tell much difference between KIK and Goex but I would probably order KIK again.

It seems to me this would be an excellent opportunity for a controlled experiment using the currently available powders. A comparison along the lines of Larry Pletcher's experiments with primer placement and lock speed, in which the variables are controlled, would give a clearer picture than anecdotal reports ever could.

Years ago Ed yard conducted experiments with the powders available after Dupont's withdrawal from the black powder market and wrote the results up in Gun Digest. The powder situation today has changed enormously. There are several powders of varying accessibility so a definitive test is certainly within the realm (at least) of possibility.

A scientific comparison not only of available brands but of the different granulations would be of immeasurable help for shooters. So far we've only heard contradictory opinions based on results in individual guns in which the variables were not controlled. A thorough scientific evaluation would do much more than just make interesting reading.
