That a Great Horned Owl?
Whales teeth may have been the original done by bored sailors. But scrim is the technique applicable to almost any material.scrimshaw is a proper term for engraving done on whale's teeth.
Forty horns? That's almost a whole orchestra! "Seventy Six trombones led the big parade, forty more cow horns followed by!"My wife does scrimshaw work, not the "period correct" type necessarily. We have been to the Dixons gun fair and the one last year(came home with about 40 horns) and I would love to see her try the kind you would expect on a powder horn.
Thought I would post 1 she did recently to see what everybody thinks. She does it all freehand, no stencils. She also does pyrography on walking sticks.

She has done a few for local people. She turns them into rattles. Only a few powder horns have been done, imported water buffalo ones.That’s amazing! Does she take custom orders?
