Has anyone ever used Dogwood for handles. I have seen candle holders made from it. I have a couple that my Mother's uncle made for her. It has pretty look to it. I have thought about using it.

I havnt used it but as long as its good and dry it should work . I havnt seen this wood finished before I dont think anyhow post a pic if you use it

Its got nice figure and is tough as nails its what I make my mallets out of.

Dogwood, eh? I would never have thought to use dogwood for knife handles. What a great idea. What about other common but overlooked woods? Has anybody used lilac or madrona or hazelnut (filbert)for handles or scales? I have all three growing in my backyard (and dogwood in the creek down the road). Thanks.

I have a friend who has made knife handles out of Lilac, and it looks real good. The handles I saw had purple stripes in the grain. he said it was medium hard wood. Len
