I have a project I am working on and I am thinking about a new lock. The gun started out as a TC Renegade. I am putting on a new stock from TOTW and I am thinking about a new L&R lock. Does anyone have any info on them? are they any good?

I am wanting a new trigger guard. I didn't see any that would work. Does anyone know of a trigger guard that would work? Thanks Ron

I've used quite a few L&R percussion locks, but not the replacement locks. Quality was good on the others, so I assume it's just as good on the replacements. The ones I've used always require just a little "smithing", mostly to get the hammer to seat firmly and squarely on the tumbler, and one had to have a hair shaved off the bridle where it hung outside of the plate. In percussion, I prefer L&R over Davis. Oh, and they require final finishing.

Can't help you on the triggers and trigger guard. Bill

The Davis DeerSlayer trigger has got to be the single most cost effective way to improve either the TC or Lyman gun with DSDT triggers.
The crisp feel and control it brings is well worth the cost.

Can't tell ya about the lock, but a good condition "polished" and tuned TC lock is hard beat. Guys snivel that the coil spring isn't a proper thing but there is little room for any "lock time" improvement.

There are several of the trigger guards offered by TOW and the others that will fit. There is nothing carved in stone that a TG need to be left like it comes from the dealer,
Cutting, grinding, drilling and fileing are all options to make one that's "Over size" to fit.
What do you want in a TG?

Those RPL stocks from TOW (Pecitonica) are inlet at about 95%,, the parts are not just drop in, there is some wood that needs to come out, and plenty that needs to come off.

Couldn't agree more!

I am a fan of L&R locks, have had great success with them.
Others here have voiced opposite opinions on them.
I have experienced extreme unhapiness with Davis locks. Others here absolutely fawn  over them.
Go figger.
Good luck.

If you got a replacment T/C stock, then it's of course inletted for "T/C" parts. You can use replacement T/C parts such as the L&R lock and trigger. The L&R RPL T/C lock is the same as their regular ones, it just has the T/C size plate. If you want a more Hawken style iron trigger gaurd that fits the T/C inletting, Try the Hawken shop. They have iron conversion furniture for T/Cs.

Here is my experience. The L&R lock is NOT better than the TC lock. It is different than the TC lock. Some folks prefer this difference. I like and have each.
The L&R percussion lock seems to be better assembled that their flintlock is. I have three of them (flintlock) and all three had to go back. After they, L&R, got the second chance, they are nice locks.
The percussion locks have worked well as they came. Again not better than TC's but a different feeling lock.

The Davis Deerslayer trigger is so wonderful, why not? Again it is not as big of improvement as it is to the Lyman GPR but they are so good, I just love them.

You know you can cut and bend and modify the TC trigger guard. You may be able to do something that appeals to your taste more.
