I would like to know if anyone has put together a Early
Lancaster rifle kit from PR. Is the kit fairly easy to put together with a rifle building book and is the inletting as good as expected ? I'm planning on ordering the kit w/ in the week and just want some last minute opinions. :thanks:

I am building a verner from them, which if you go to the site and see, is very similiar to the lancaster. It's my second gun from them and they are alot of work, but if you go slow and read first it's not too bad. My biggest advise is just to go supper slow and expect it to take a long time. Then if it's done sooner, you'll be happy. The inletting is very good, but I would not consider this "fairly easy" as you asked. They are alot of work, but I found it to be extremely fun. I have only 2 books. The "Gunsmith of Greenville County" and "Building the Pennsylvania Rifle". They along with this board were invaluable.

If you follow this link, you will see the Old style Lancaster I built from the Pecatonica River "kit".
LANCASTER
The kit is like all of the "advanced" kits.
Everything is "close" but everything needs to be carefully installed by trimming, cutting, drilling, tapping, sanding, swearing....

If this is your first advanced kit, I would say having Pecatonica do some of the work like installing the breech plug, milling the sight dovetails and installing the barrel underlugs is money well spent (and his rates are very reasonable).

Just take your time and if you have questions, be sure to ask them here. :)

Thank you for the word of advice. I do plan on taking it real slow since I'm spending good money on a welcome home gift for myself. I also plan on letting PR do the breech plug and dovetails due to time and not wanting to screw it up. I hope to post pics when I get it done. :)
