There’s a beautiful gun stock inside that hunk of walnut, waiting for you to get her out!
well today i worked on inletting the trigger plate.
stock upside in my padded vise. it was just a smidgen loose.
I tightened the vise just half a smidgen.
you know that unmistakable sound of walnut cracking?
just now got out of the corner where i had to recite " I will not say mother..........." 100 times. I said it and meant it. until the next time.
warmed up some titebond 2 and spread the crack and flooded it.
crack went from the very front of the lock inlet at a 221/2 degree angle forward about 3 inches.
figured it was go good time to stop.

Well that sux, but at least it was fixable. Walnut can be a bear to work.

Did you make the points? Looking good.
Naw.. I got the points from 3 Rivers Archery. Made everything else from scratch, tho. Cut and straightened the cane, cut the nocks, cut the feathers, harvested the sinew from a backstrap, etc.

They shoot good! I had to try ‘em out before I let them go out into the wild…

Well yesterday I had something unexpected happen while working on my gun build.
I had removed the sights when I draw filed the barrel and had not replaced them so they wouldn't get damaged or be in the way.
I had the barrel installed in the stock while fitting the nose cap on the stock. While reaching across the barrel, I guess my thumb came into contact with the corner of the sight dovetail and I removed a section on my thumb pad. At least that is where the blood trail started. I hadn't realized how sharp that edge was. I think I am going to fill both dovetails with a wooden piece until I am ready for the sights. Lesson learned.

that is a typical build in my shop! Blood, Sweat, and Tears!
don't think I have ever worked on a gun I didn't bleed on.
