Went to the Olde English Faire last weekend and picked up a mess of nice leather for a great price from one of the vendors. Took it home and cut out some pieces for another shooting bag and took 'em to work with me for something to do when I ain't busy workin'. Work was kinda slow and I got 'er done. Heard every purse and "man-bag" joke in the book, and my fingers are sore, but I got 'er done anyway...

I started with the pattern Half Moon Ranger put up here on the Forum. Left out a few small details and added a few of my own to make the bag I wanted. It is the best I've made yet and I'm pretty happy with it. I am open to any constructive criticisms tho. I'm still trying to learn. And I have plenty more leather.

Here's the bag. It's 5-6oz leather hand stitched with crochet cotton thread.

I shrunk the pattern down on my computer and made a smaller version of the main bag. Then I stitched it to the front panel of the main bag where it would sit under the flap.

Added a double pocket to the inside of the back panel of the main bag. Figgered they would be handy for deer tags and such...

The small front pouch has a bottom gusset as does the main bag. The gusset on the main bag is welted, but not the one on the small bag or the side seams on either. I really, really don't like stitching thru welts. Really.

The 2" straps are made of the same leather and stitched directly to the back panel of the bag. I used an old buckle for adjustment. The long end of the strap had to be spliced to make it long enuff. Got a little artsy and stitched a hunters star design into the splice.

Already makin' plans for the next one. :youcrazy:

It would be really neat if you or Halfmoon could post the pattern again!

Thats a real nice bag worthy of duplication
and one that would be honorable to wear!

That's a whole lot of hand sewing to do in a day, much less at work. No wonder your fingers are sore!

Really nice work, and I too would be interested in a link to the pattern or a repost.

I did a very good job!!! I've heard the 'man purse' jokes a time or two myself...

Hint -> Member Resources. :wink:

 Yep. That's where I got it.
Lotsa other great stuff there too. Go check it out if you haven't for a while.

Thanks for all of the kind remarks.

Brownbear, I didn't do it all in one day. :haha: Took whatever standing-around time I had out of 3 days at work. Still enuff stitches to make your fingers sore tho.

HalfMoonRanger, Thanks! For the compliment and for the original pattern. I really like the basic design of this bag pattern. But I like it even better with my additions.

I can scan the modified and shrunken versions if anyone wants 'em.

Thanks Swampy. I really like it.
Price was right too. I got a screamin' deal on the leather. And it was even pre-"distressed" from layin' around on a table in a vendors tent so it looks used even tho it's new.

Haven't heard much of ya lately. I hope all is well with you. Did you ever get around to makin' that new bag for your squirrel gun yet?

Thanks again to everyone for the good words. Several of you guys are the best bag makers I know of. I am truly honored by your compliments.

I haven't yet no. Actually going in tomorrow morning for hopefully a short hospital stay, no worrys I get play with my nurses again.

Jethro, ya done good! I like the bag....a lot. What are the dimensions? Looks kinda like maybe 8" X 8" for the main bag? PT or email me please with the reduced pattern. Thanks. Emery
