I'd posted a few posts back to ask opinions on the turned applied tip for the horn I'm working on. I finished the tip and sanded the horn. Today I turned the base plug and dry fitted it all. I will make a black staple to put on the base end for the strap to attach to. It's right at fourteen inches around the curve, three inches in diameter and is right hand carry. I still have some final finishing to do on the horn to get it ready for engraving. I'll be back when it's finished. My next project is to do one with cherry plugs, probably with a domed base plug. All of the wood is from the family farm. Thanks for looking.

Is that tuened applied tip to be threaded on? Looks good. Making good progress.

Rich,
I haven't done the screw tip horn yet. It's on the agenda to do. This tup will be inned on with wooden pegs. I have the Beal threading kit and also have done some hand threads to practice. Maybe the next one in cherry will be a threaded applied tip. Thanks for the positive comments.

:hatsoff: Very nice! What type of wood did you use for this ones base plug? Also what type/colour of stain did you use?

Soggy,
They are both black walnut and a bit of Myland's friction polish, applied on the lathe. No stain, it's the natural black walnut color. I will have to make some wooden pins for the spout plug and base plug, so they'll be out of the same walnut as the rest.

That's probably where I'll be too. I've done some threads, but I'm not very good at it. I'll have to do some more practicing before attempting it on the horn. The pieces I've tried cut fairly easily and smoothly. Wish me luck!
