Laws Concerning Muzzleloaders???

What are the laws in the U.S. preferably in Michigan concerning antique muzzleloaders, revolvers, etc etc etc... Would I have to get a CCW just to own one of the old time revolvers or flintlock/precussion pistols...

Generaly muzzleloaders/ antiques are treated less stringently.

CCW permits only regulate concealed firearms. The second amendment protects you right to openly carry firearms.
I commend your effort to ensure you legality.

Thanks for the info... I'll give that site you mentioned a look after I'm done here... The reason I was asking about the laws was because I wanted to get one of those old time revolvers from the dixie gun catalog... Not that I planned on carrying it for protection... I just thought I had to get a CCW for target shooting as well...

I personally wouldn't rely on firearms information from a local LEO other than a state police officer. From my experience most of the local LEO's don't have a clue especially when it comes to black powder firearms laws.

In Michigan you will have to get a permit to purchase for a black powder handgun. (that has rifleing in the bore, smoothbores ya don't, but most dealers don't know this, unless they read the fine print in the stupid law.) If you were to purchase it from Dixie you would have to have it sent to a FFL dealer, and then register it locally. Most dealers will charge you a handleing fee over and above your purchase price, and shipping. I would look locally for one. Gander mountian, Bass Pro, on take a run down to Cabella's. They would all be good sources. Bill

 

For any New Yorkers out there wondering how this applies in New York State. You do not need a NYS pistol permit to own a black powder handgun provided you are not in posession of the powder, primers and projectals for same.

Cool... that link was what I was looking for...

I wasn't sure about California laws about a flintlock blunderbuss with a 14" barrel ...
But couldn't find anything about it searchin the States web page....

I didn't want to order the parts and make one, only to find out that California considered it a sawed off shotgun......
