It's official, lead bullets are going to be banned in a number of areas, particularly the central coastal region beginning July 1 2008. Previously, 22 cal and under were exempted as were bullets for antique firearms but now, they're going too. of course, there are no alternatives for 22 or 17 cal guns so I guess those are out. Gonna hunt rabbits along the central coast or ANY freeken area the condor may fly? Then you had better have steel shot. Craptastic. Another PRK SNAFU

On 12-7-07 I asked this exact question and finally get an answer. Thank you!
I too live on the central coast and will be looking for alternatives to shoot in my 20 bore smoothie. Any ideas?

Interesting development, although not surprizing.

During the years I lived in Carmel (70-76) the Condors were fairly often seen, but mostly only if you had access to the private and vast San Carlos Ranch area up out of Carmel Valley. This was a stronghold for them back then. They were only very, very rarely seen in Carmel Valley, along coastal SR1 or in any of the coastal mountain corridor all along the central coast, and never in popular places to hunt like Hunter Ligget MR, White Rocks, Polo Colorado Canyon, Fort Ord MR, etc.

I suppose every one knows that this is not about condors but is really the beggining of stricter gun control. You see, this will raise the cost of shooting dramatically. Many new shooters will drop out, others will never start. Once the "need" for hunting arms decreases, well, there's no excuse for that pesky 2nd amendment then is there?

The handwriting is on the wall.

The 2nd Amendment has nothing at all to do with hunting. It is about the citizenry having the means to overthrough a corrupt out of control government. Sound familiar?

If we could simply get all the dealers, jobbers, distributors and manufacturers to refuse to sell guns and ammo and components to California Police and Government agencies, we might see a change out there. Barrett was driven out of business with the .50 caliber rifle ban. He is now back in business in Tennessee. And, he created a new cartridge, the .460 Barrel, which is a .50 Cal. BMG cartridge, necked down to .458. It has a flatter trajectory out to 10,000 feet, and delivers more energy at those long ranges than the old .50 caliber BMG rifles do. Recoil is also a bit less. He refuses to sell his rifles to any California Police agency.

Why can't the rest of the manufacturers, dealers, distributors, jobbers, etc. refuse to sell ammo and guns to California, too? And where were they when Barrett was in the sights of the Governator? Did they really think that California was going to stop when it banned the .50 cal. BMG, and drove Barrett out of the state? The response of gun makers, and ammo makers, and component makers should have been an Instant sessation of sales to any dealer or deparment, or government agency in those states that have imposed future requirements for tagging, or serial numbers, of computer Identification of bullets, or any of the other nonsense restrictions that will not solve crime but will harrass gun owners in to giving up their guns. I am hoping the Manufacturers will respond to the latest move by Cook County, Illinois to ban all gunstores from operating in Cook County, by boycotting all the police and police departments immediately.

If citizens can't buy guns, then why should the government be able to do so? I wouold be glad to provide them with free ads to help them make up lost sales by finding buyers in other states, or in other parts of Illinois to make up any loss of profit.

" Oh, I'm all too familiar with that argument. i teach government and US History and I'm a Madison Fellow. You are so very correct. However, the prevailing view among far too many is that "we only need guns for hunting" and that we we get past that "barbaric" activity, will, we won't need those dangerous guns then will we now?

It matters little what the 2nd amendment was meant to be if the courts today choose not to see it that way.

Just one more reason to build a giant chainsaw, cut California free from the rest of the continent and tow it out to sea!

Don't blame the state, Coyote, blame the ignorant tree huggin' "scientist" that came up with this.
Oh, and our moron govenor too, that apparantly signs everything put in front of his face...I'm amazed he can even spell his own name.

Think of California as a big barometer for things to come nation wide...Keep your eyes peeled and be ready to take action. There's nowhere for BS thinking like this to go but East.

lets pick a time, right down to the second and everyone jump and slam their feet on the ground at the same time, maybe the sudden jolt will crack Kalifornia off---- :hmm: :hmm: :hmm: sorry Claude nothing personal---

At least give me a heads up first so I can pack my stuff and get out.
I'm originally from Hatboro PA. Maybe I'll head back there.

Really, people, if you want to see the end of California that much all you need to do is sit back and wait. It'll self-destruct in due time if we stay on this same path.

Just so ya know, Arizona already banned lead ammo in the condor areas. Guess Colorado is just lucky to not have any of those flyin dinosaurs. GW

I have a questan for all Tradicional shooters that live in the V lead ban area in Kalifornia? What will we use next year a Patch Brass Ball :rotf: :nono: And if you want to take your kids out to shoot a 22 and get them interested in shooting what to do? Go to Google and type in {Lead Ban California} And to all of you that dont live here and have a smart A$$ answer just wait it WILL come to you. :surrender: We all need to wright to our congressman & women, senators and let them know how you feel about this. :bull:
PS I forgot talk to our DFG and dont forget to get a Hunting & Fishing license next year.

I agree the time has come to get involved in all states and take back this country!

Reckon they will ban lead sinkers next time?? Why not I bet more lead is lost in rivers and lakes than anything else that would tend to contaminate the environment.

Ok the Smart$$ answer, Just take Dick Chaney with you next time you hunt, he has the right idea!! :blah:

I've got a mold. I'll be shooting anything that melts and pours if that's what it takes. There's plenty of lead in the world and I mostly shoot on my own property. ;-)

Are they going to outlaw sailboats? The last one I owned had 5,600 pounds of lead in the keel.

Hey rabbito3,

I once read that more lead is put back into the environment from vehicle wheel weights becoming dislodged from tire rims than any other source.

I still wanna know where these enviro-whackos think Lead came from originally? It has been in the ground for eons, so why do they think that putting it BACK into the ground is an environmental Hazard? IDJITS, all of them.
