I'm just curious because I do have a couple of 50 cals, so why no 50's?
FYI - my favorite caliber is the .54 and my next in line is the .58's (I have 3 of those and one is a double barrel)
Because there is a 54 and a 45. Target competition means a larger ball to cut lines, and also I found the 54 more accurate. The 45 uses less powder and lead but does pretty much what the 54 is too big to do. The 50 might be the medium of the often used larger calibers, but usually a 45 or 54 can do it better. I tend to believe that some movies that placed a high value on the Hawken's 50 sits in the mind of those that use it.
