@sheriff john ,

I'm not up to date on the exact wording of the California hunting laws, but I'm sure they could be found online.

Regarding lead versus non-lead projectiles, there have been a number of lively discussions on this board, several just within the past year. If you'll look in the upper right corner of your screen for the word, "Search," click on it and write in "California lead," and then tell it to go. I just tried it, and got plenty of hits. If you are willing to read through them, you'll probably find about all you want to know about hunting in the Bear Flag Republic with lead and non-lead projectiles.

Lead is still legal where I live (Florida), but I think it's a good idea for all of us to stay abreast of this sort of legislation, as well as emerging technologies for lead substitutes. I have followed most of the California "lead threads" here on this form with interest.

Best regards,

Notchy Bob

Please excuse my ignorance, I ask out of ignorance .....are lead projectiles outlawed for California hunters, including M/L's ? If so, what do you use?

I am a former kalipornian, left a decade ago. Even back then, lead bullets and/or shot could not be used to take game. I have a couple boxes of their foo-ammo. Give me your address, I'll send it to you.

In Cal. you grab the barrel and use it as a club🤣. Just yankin' yer chain.
Colorado we still use lead balls. However, Cal. imports are screwing up this state too.
Cal. just about everything on earth cause cancer, so it is better to check with wildlife division.
BTW: Any question asked(mostly) is not ignorance.

OK ..Bismuth acts like lead melting and casting ...anyone with experience as to how it "shears" when being loaded/seated with a ram in a revolver like an 1860 Colt Army ?? ...Weight ?? lead round ball vs Bismuth round ball of like diameters ??

Shoot, Skin, Shutup. Bullet was a pass through.
I’m unfortunately in California, last year my friend was checked by two fish and game wardens in the Central Valley while duck hunting. The warden checked their birds with a wand to see if they could detect lead residue.

IGNORANCE, is a lack of information and easily remedied. To quote Will Rodgers “We are all ignorant, only on different subjects”.
STUPID, on the other hand, can’t be fixed.

What kind of wand? Like the metal detector at schools. It would just show metal. Unless an expensive one and a knowledgeable operator this would be a joke and easily defeated in court
