I have a lean pee that I have never used.

I have seen online that you should put a pole from inside the tent.

Can a person build an outside tripod to make this tent work?

Has anybody here ever backpacked one?

I have always used 3 or more poles along the inside walls ,one inside works ok but is in the way, for Dec. deer camp 10 days i needed more because of the heavey snow.

Well ya need a hoop on top to tie a rope,,?
I'd think more bi-pod with a front pulling guy rope from the top once the bi-pod is holding it up.

I tried a lean-pee, a most inconvenient set up with the pole inside.
I'd sell the dang thing and get a small A-frame, :idunno:

I've seen them with a pair of poles crossed just above the peak, and lines behind and in front to maximize internal space. Kinda heavy to schlep on one's back.

The best lightweight setup I've seen in trekking style shelters was two fellows each with a DIY diamond shelter, that when combined formed a closed shelter for cold and wet camping.

What size lean pee and where did it come from?
A lean pee is nothing more than a square tarp with extra ties to do exactly what your asking.

Check out RK Lodges http://www.rklodges.com/Lodges/Accesories.html

Since it is a square tarp your setup options are almost unlimited.

If its a Lean Pea, its half lean-to and half tipi and totally made up in the modern world. Thats why they got banned and its real hard to find an image of one now a days.

I've found a lean pee is a cloth verson of the bark covered small tee pee type camp (house) that the great lakes natives used before contact with French and others.

I went and found a pic of what I always knew as a lean-pee. This is an old photo from Friendship that I found on the NMLRA Facebook page.
Notice how it has that large "Phallaus" sticking out the top where the interior poll goes? Much different than a Miners or Sibley tent.

I use a Panther Primitives pyramid for many years. Was never "banned" or even criticized. Have read pro and con arguments regarding the styles correctness.
To answer you: Yes, the tripod will work just fine as will the internal pole. I used the internal pole to hold items. I drilled holes and put cold forged pins through them for hanging things.

Now I'm confused, too. - Can your or someone else explain to me how a "lean pee" is different than any other ordinary canvas tarp, erected with any other sort of pole(s) or a tripod???

yours, satx

At most events I bring my small wall tent and only a couple of servants. No one has ever complained, guess they like the catered ribeye, lobster and shrimp dinners........

Free beer too ...right?

:rotf: :rotf:
Beer? How proletarian...... I might break out the Henri Jayer Richebourg 1985 for dinner then after dinner some Courvoisier L’Esprit cognac and a couple of boxes of Cohiba Esplendido cigars.

Oh! I see, a black tie affair.
"Alfred! fetch my tuxedo and bring the Jaguar around front, I'll be going out this evening."

At about $700.oo a swallow the fancy French wine better be good
