Lee r.e.a.l. Mold

Going to give the Lee r.e.a.l. a try in my .50 cal TC Hawken. Which one do you recommend the 250 gr or the 320 gr.?

What twist rate do you have? The smaller one stabilizes easier but either should work with a 1/48 twist.

I haven't checked it myself but it's my understanding these TC's have a 1 in 48 twist.

The 320 grain will like more powder to keep it flying in line longer and will kick you harder when you pull the trigger.

It will however, pack a harder punch if you do manage to get it on target.

The 250 grain is sufficient for just about every game animal in North America - unless you have a Grizzly charging you :grin:

You'd need a faster twist for the longer one. 250 is more accurate in a 1-48.

I have the TC .54 1:48 and I also tried the REAL's I tried both sizes. Sure they were fun to pour and easy to load, but they were not as accurate as the round ball.

My plan was to hunt with them, but after a number of trips to the range that idea was changed.

I had a CVA 50 with 1/48 twist and they were very accurate in it.

The 250 shoots very well in my TC .50. It groups well with any load between 70 and 90 grains 2F. I lube with mink oil or bore butter.

I've tried the 320 grn REAL in my 1:48" twist Lyman with my typical 70 grn charge of 3F, and without a felt wad it keyholed and was way left. But the next two, with a wad, were nearly touching and just under the bull. These were at 50 yds.

It showed enough promise that I bought a mold...

Ive always wanted to try these in .45 but havent found any place to buy them. Anyone here have any to sell or a mold?

Mike3132 PM me an address and I'll send you some. I have the 45 REALs, the smaller one, if I remember right 200gr. They make them in two sizes for most calibers 45-58.
