Hello All. I am looking to build a flintlock rifle to add a bit of interest to my deerstalking, which is currently mostly long range alpine shooting.
Initially I thought a rifle in the Lancaster style, .54 and with a 38 inch or thereabouts barrel was as near perfect as I could get, but I have been looking at the English sporting rifle by Jim Chambers and very much like the look of them.
Unfortunately, I shoot left handed (blind in right eye, so please don't advise learning to use the other side...), and there is not a left hand option listed. Does anyone know of a maker of left hand round faced locks that I could use to build this rifle?
Thank you all for as very enjoyable site, and keep up the good work.
Ross

Does that mean that the left-handed locks from L&R is not the same quality as the right-handed?

Call Jim Chambers. I have seen a LH Siler lock recently, so I believe he has LH locks for sale. It just is not clear in his on-line catalogue. I can not say you will find a round face lockplate in LH, however.

The quality of the L&R round face L/H and R/H locks are the same. I put a left hand lock on a fowler last year and I remember having to do some work on it, I can not however remember what needed to be done.

As soon as RC is able to get back online I am sure that he will beable to tell you how well it is working now.

I have to agree with Roy. I was just checking the L& R locks website and they do sell a round face lock in LH. The quality is the same as their RH lock of the same design. Roy was putting up his answer as I was nosing around the sites to answer the question from "RossN".

Mike Rowe of Caywood Gunmakers sells a few left-handed round-faced locks, but they are of the early Wilson trade gun variety, so they tend to be close to 6" in length.

That said, I have 2 of them and I find them flawless in quality, construction, and reliabilty.

I will agree with flint62smoothy on the locks from Mike Rowe at Caywood. I havent put to many rounds though mine yet , but its never failed to ignite the pan. Its fast and smooth and still on its original flint with no refreshing of the flint edge.
