Yes, Jeager barrels were not always short. "Usually", I believe, but don't quote me, :))) that on average, looking at a lot of surviving original Jeagers, barrel length was usually/normally/on average/most of the time around 33". But there are/were barrels of 36" or more. .58" is a sweet caliber, and I almost went with that, as I have a couple of .58 percussion guns, and had all the molds for .58", but I went with .62 as the bigger hole reduced weight a bit in that specific barrel, and where I hunt I thought it be prudent to go with a little more lead to fling, in case I run into Mr.Grizz and he wants to fight. However, the calibers are so close that I can shoot .575" balls with a denim patch...so probably just some over-thinking on my part.

Yeah...York County rifles. If I ever got another custom rifle, it would be a York County long rifle. However, then Brown Bessie, and Brown Rosie (the Jeager) may gather a bit of dust, and I could not suffer that. :)

Aha...Davis makes/made a "Colonial" lock. I think that is what mine is. The White Lighting vent liner is a chambers I think, and therein lies my confusion. !! Anyhow, it's one fast lock.

Well, I took the plunge today after speaking with Doug at Pecatonica River Long Rifle Supply Co., and ordered a swamped, 31" Colerain barrel and a maple stock with the barrel inletted and the ram rod channel drilled. Thanks, tenngun for the Pecatonica suggestion.

I've never dealt with Pecatonica, but was confident with my choice having discussed my left-handed jaeger project with Doug. He suggested that the barrel and ram rod could be inletted with castoff, allowing for a cheek piece on the stock's right side.

I enjoyed our conversation, and will order all remaining parts from Pecatonica. Now, if my wife enjoys my purchase as much as I do, my winter will be wonderful!

It’s been some years since I dealt with them, but a rank them as one of my number ones. Good service , and high quality parts. I don’t think you’ll be dissatisfied in any way with them.
