Guys; Just returned from shooting my smoothbore today - I shoot 10 shots at about 35 yds and called it quits (all were in the black on a 5.5" bullseye)

Do you guys think long sessions are better or short ones more often?

Since I have to drive about 2 1/2 hours one way to the range, long sessions less frequently are the rule.

Ideally, to build muscle memory, frequent short sessions are better than long ones spaced further apart. The reality is, unless you can walk out your back door and shoot, most of us are stuck with longer sessions at less frequent intervals.

Much as I love my Armi Sport '42 Springfield, I find 20 - 25 rounds at a session plenty enough intimacy with 80 grains of 2f under that .678 roundball.

I think most conditioning sources recommend relatively short sessions with frequent reps. Well, the reps are never frequent enough, but two dozen slaps a day from that lovely lady are surely sufficient!

I felt no bruising at all after a dozen .690" roundballs out of a very light trade gun, using 90-100 grains of FFG. Next time I'm making more roundballs.

Myself, I shoot as much as possible, my brown bess shoots great all day, I generally shoot 30-40 rounds at a session. 80 grains of 3F and PRB.
I shoot untill I have to cast more balls. I have fired as much as 100 shots over the course of a day.

Well, our woodswalk is 21 shots, so that is a typical session. Takes a couple of hours to get through it, if you are with some other guys and goofing on each other all the way through

I have on a single day shot our woodswalk, shot a round of trap (10 birds) and then shot some on the line all with my 20 ga. trade gun.
