Does anyone know where you can order black powder in a quantity of less then 50 lbs. I don't think I could shoot up 50 lbs. Everyone I've found is into the unspeakable loaders and pellets :shocked2: . I'm stuck with shooting pyrodex powder because it's all I can get my hands on. I can't find any sidelock guys around here or I would offer to go in on a 50 lb. order. Maybe you guys might have some ideas?

I just got 5#'s from Powder inc. 4#'s FF KIK and 1# FFF KIK. Delivered to my door. They have Swiss, Goex and KIK

The only disadvantage in ordering smaller amounts is that the cost per pound is higher because the hazmat fee is the same for 5 pounds as it is for 25 pounds or more.

I just ordered 25 lb from powder inc it worked out to $10.20 a pound. I got Goex 3f.

Just in case you may want to do this...most places will mix cans of granulation to make the case.

Example, when I order a case of Goex, I get 1 can 4F, 4 cans 2F, and 20 cans of 3F...

How much is a hazmat fee? Is it based on where you live or a flat rate? As I have posted before, it's getting hard to find around here too.

On the invoice I have from J&J Pyrotechnics, the HAZMAT fee is rolled into the shipping fee.... not enough info to say if its flat rate or mileage based... but from PA to AZ the HAZMAT and shipping cost came to $51 for the 25 lb case. Total cost for 25 lbs, delivered, was $266.

And as an aside, the HAZMAT doesn't get you careful handling... someone dropped something on the carton heavy and hard enough to leave a good mark on the cardboard case, and to crush the top of one of the cans inside :shocked2:

Which is why I don't get too excited about BP storage in general...I keep it in the exact same cardboard shipping carton that it arrives in...I figure if Goex is stable enough to be abused all across the country, on and off trucks, etc, in a simple cardboard box, I'm not going to worry about special storage magazines, outbuildings, etc...sits on the floor of a closet, out of the way in a general purpose room that only I use for hunting / shooting things, etc.

I just realized I never heard back from you on that Bob...so they will also sell over the counter?
Loose cans or case only?

Hey Roundball, I believe that they sell only by the case. I picked up a case of 3f back in June, it cost me $224.00.
Congratulations on your extrodinary hunting season :hatsoff:

I'm still pinching myself...hunted 40 years and never shot a 10 pointer...this year I get two in 7 days...go figure.

Next year all I'll probably see will be a spike !

J&J sells case lots and you need to contact a day or so prior so they can get what you want from the main storage area. Wonderful folks to deal with I buy 25 lb lots from them for CAS as well as muzzleloading.
