Tinker, yea load development takes a while but it is fun. What load do you use in the short Bess you have? I was thinking i would start with 70 gr Goex 2f and 1 oz of shot and then try 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 oz and see which patterns best. Then try it with 80 gr of powder.

70 gr. of black and 1 1/8 oz shot is a heavy load for me..
I hunted Canadian geese and small game. Worked well
for me when I used it.

Most of the places that
I hunted, it is not leagal to use a muzzleloader of any kind
now. All thanks to our GF&P.

Thanks Tinker2, the load i found the best so far is close to yours. 75 gr Goex 2f, and 1 1/4 oz of #5 lead shot is the best so far.

If there is one thing I have learned, it is each gun is an
individual. I said that what I use would be light loads to
most people but my .36 rifle won’t shoot well with any
thing less then 70 gr. of black.

With most of my smooth bore shot loads 11, 12, 16, 20, 28 ga.
I use two over shot cards over the powder and one over the
shot card, over the shot.

The dime rollers sounds like something that I should look in to.
Do keep us informed.

Tinker2, the Dime wrappers are just right in the Bess bore. Need to do some more work with them to see if they are consistant. I tried the thick overpowder wad, cushion wad, method, as well as just the overpowder wad, and just the cushion wad, and cushion wad with an overshot card on top of it, over the powder, but the 4 overshot cards with the grease patterned the best so far. And this gun is different in the amount of prime it likes. All the oter flinters i've had liked a small amount of prime (1/4-1/3 pan) but this one seems to like about 3/4 pan of prime to consistantly go off fast.
